column_border_style=&#8221;solid&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; text_direction=&#8221;default&#8221;]\n<h1 aria-level=\"1\">GDPR compliance in the Nordics (DK\/SE\/NO\/FI) &#8211; special rules in each country<\/h1>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">GDPR applies equally across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/doceo\/document\/PETI-CM-776873_EN.pdf\">EU\/EEA<\/a> &#8211; but each country has <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">specific national rules and practices<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">that particularly affect issues such as <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">camera surveillance, employee monitoring and the use of national ID numbers<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Here are the key differences you need to know when working Nordic. (GDPR Article 87, for example, gives countries the right to set special conditions for national ID numbers).   <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 aria-level=\"2\">GDPR in <span style=\"color: #e96569;\">Denmark<\/span> (DK)<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Danish <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Danish Data Protection Act<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">  complements the GDPR. Two things stand out in practice: <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"134233117\":false,\"134233118\":false,\"335559738\":240,\"335559739\":240}\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\"335552541\":1,\"335559685\":720,\"335559991\":360,\"469769226\":\"Symbol\",\"469769242\":[8226],\"469777803\":\"left\",\"469777804\":\"\uf0b7\",\"469777815\":\"hybridMultilevel\"}\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CPR numbers<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> have special rules (\u00a711) that limit their use and require additional legal authority\/security.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"134233117\":false,\"134233118\":false,\"335559738\":240,\"335559739\":240}\"> <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-list-defn-props=\"{\"335552541\":1,\"335559685\":720,\"335559991\":360,\"469769226\":\"Symbol\",\"469769242\":[8226],\"469777803\":\"left\",\"469777804\":\"\uf0b7\",\"469777815\":\"hybridMultilevel\"}\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CCTV surveillance<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> is a separate area that the Danish Data Protection Agency also oversees.<\/span><br \/>\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\"> See more at <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the Danish Data Protection Agency<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> (the national supervisory authority). <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.datatilsynet.dk\/media\/7753\/danish-data-protection-act.pdf?utm_source=chatgpt.com\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">datatilsynet.dk<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 aria-level=\"2\">GDPR in <span style=\"color: #e96569;\">Sweden<\/span> (SE)<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.imy.se\/en\/about-us\/swedish-authority-for-privacy-protections-assignment\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">IMY<\/span><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">  (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten) is the supervisory authority. Sweden has both GDPR and a   <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Camera surveillance law<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. From  <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">On April 1, 2025<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> the requirement for prior authorization for many types of camera surveillance was removed (in return, liability and information requirements are tightened). <\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Sweden also has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.activemind.legal\/law\/se-sensitive-data\/\">special rules<\/a> for <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">social security number<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The starting point is that processing requires consent &#8211; with exceptions where unique identification is necessary or there are other compelling reasons for this. <\/span> <\/p>\n<h2 aria-level=\"2\">GDPR in <span style=\"color: #e96569;\">Norway<\/span> (NO)<\/h2>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Data Protection Authority<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">  is the supervisory authority. Norway is known for a   <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Restrictive employee monitoring practices<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">: Using digital tools to monitor employee devices is &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/iapp.org\/news\/b\/norway-dpa-says-monitoring-employees-electronic-equipment-use-basically-illegal\">fundamentally illegal<\/a>&#8220;, with narrow exceptions and requirements for careful assessment and proportionality. There are special rules for access to email etc.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lovdata.no\/dokument\/NLE\/lov\/2018-06-15-38\">Norway&#8217;s rules<\/a> on <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">national identity number<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> (national ID number) require that processing only occurs when there is a legitimate need for secure identification. <\/span> <\/p>\n<h2 aria-level=\"2\">GDPR in <span style=\"color: #e96569;\">Finland<\/span> (FI)<\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The supervision is handled by <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Data Protection Ombudsman<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">  (Tietosuojavaltuutetun toimisto). Finland has a widespread use of   <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">personal identity code<a href=\"https:\/\/tietosuoja.fi\/en\/home\">(henkil\u00f6tunnus<\/a>)<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">  with special rules on when and how it can be processed.
